Contemplating the Next Move

Some New Paintings

Miss Daisy

A surprise for Carolyn’s fiance, Tom! Can’t wait to see his face when he gets this painting of Daisy!

Quietly Whittling

Finally completed! Chris is…

Quietly Whittling…compare the finished product to the  in progress painting One will notice the intricacy of the hands that are carving a bear out of wood.

Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Plein Air Festival

Pump House at the Apple Orchard

Last weekend I went to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in N. Georgia to paint in the Blue Ridge Mountains Art Association Plein Air Festival. Connie, Bonnie, Jane and I , aka The Chattahoochee River Painters, had a great time painting , laughing and eating!!!

Christy in Repose

Christy in Repose

This was actually a color study of Christy. However, I liked the way the painting turned out so I had it framed! After having painted her many times it appears as if I have finally captured her persona. She is an excellent model and can hold a pose longer than most.

Back in Action

Chris is in progress….think I will end up calling this painting Quietly Whittling. Will post when completed!

Almost Ready to Move In!

From This

All this “mess” had to be cleared out of the space….

This alcove was designed to hold shelving for paper and canvases.

Beautiful track lighting and a sink to clean up! Can’t wait to move in.

Southeastern Pastel Society Annual Juried Show

Forsythia by the Fence

This painting will be at Quinlan Arts Center in Gainesville,GA from August 18, until October 8, 2011.

It will be one of only 100 paintings that were juried into this show by judge Mark R. Hanson.

During the Process

Framing

Framing the walls helps me see the room!

Drywall is going up
Drywall is looking good!

And the sink goes in the corner...

The studio is coming along faster than I thought would be possible. All of this has taken place in just three days! Framing, remove window …insert French doors for light, and now the drywall!

Hard to believe this is the same space that once held so much “junk” and now is becoming a studio!

So this is where I will be painting soon. And just look at all that light coming in where that small window used to be! The guys doing the work are so pleasant and they really work at lightning speed!!! Drywall has 2 more days then the finishing touches start falling into place!!!

New Studio Being Built

New Studio in Progress

The contractor said  he is going to start this coming week! Can’t wait to get settled into my new digs. Hopefully, everything will be organized and neat. Wonder how long it will take to get the studio to feell like home? Artists can be finicky when it comes to arrangement of their good stuff!

I have a beautiful library table that will find its new home in my studio! Now I just have to think about getting my easels set up, shelving built, and a storage closet designed as well. It will be a pleasure to have a sink at my disposal rather than running back into the main part of the house. Oh, the possibilities are endless. Floor samples are sitting in the unfinished space and it is time for me to pick out which one I want. Decisions, decisions abound.

We’re Having a Heat Wave

It has been so hot here in Georgia that going outside to paint is out of the question!

I had plans to Plein Air south of the city at Reynolds Nature Preserve and we had to cancel because it was just too darn hot. Oh well, back to the studio to work on some portraits! Nature will just have to wait.

About The Artist

Katie Gronsbell creates artwork depicting places she has visited around the world. The sounds, smells and images of each locale are represented in the intriguing pastel paintings, as well as the charcoal and pencil drawings that she produces.

Katie also portrays the human figure in various poses . These poses indicate a wide variety of settings. The journey begins with models in studio settings and continues with representations of a variety of people from places near and far. One can notice the application of value, color, and temperature that she uses in her paintings to whisk the viewer away to another location in the world. Enjoy being transported on the vicarious journey when viewing each of her artistic creations.
